Minister’s Message – May 21, 2017

This week’s note doesn’t have anything to do with this Sunday’s message – we hope that you’ll join with others in the congregation, as our Minister of Pastoral Care, Brian Thorpe, shares his reflections on the scripture.

The Ministry Team has been preparing for the summer and the fall – trying to get our heads around what has been offered, what is being offered, and what might be offered for our life and growth as a faith community. The amount and the variety of what is being offered is amazing – from our children’s ministries, to our contemplative practices, to our social acting ministries, to our music life, to our worship life, to… well… so much more! Even as we move towards our SummerSpirit time, gathering with other United Church congregations in our area to worship and experience God’s love together, we’re realizing that our life as a congregation keeps moving and changing and growing.

One of the hopes that those of us in the “program development” part of the church have is that you will find something that interests you, something that helps to ignite your passion as a follower of Christ and a child of God. Is there something in our congregation that has done that for you already? Is there something else that you’d like to take part in – something that would help you – in that place of growth and transformation? Let us know!

We’re also wondering if there is someone you know who might find participation to be uplifting or transformative for them? We understand that making that invitation can sometimes be difficult. What do you think would help you to be able invite them to join you in an event, group or activity? Again – let us know!

Dunbar Ryerson United Church has been a nurturing and growth-filled place for many of those of us who have found this community. We’re working on building on the best of our history, even as we grow into something new.

Keep your eyes out for something that you’d like to take part in – and keep your eyes out for something that you might be able to invite someone else to join you in.

Let’s plant some seeds and see what God grows in us, and with us.

For those of you who would like to take part in Dunbar Ryerson United Church’s First Ever Fall Thrift Event, we’re working on getting our initial planning meeting together.  If you would like to be part of the planning team, please let us know what dates you would be available for a beginning planning meeting.
